John Creed Day’s relationship with bicycles began young. At eleven, bikes, friends, and increasingly ambitious ramps opened the door to a lifelong pursuit of speed, flight, competition, and possibility.

That pursuit eventually carried him into professional racing and bicycle innovation, but it also came with a steep price. His manuscript recounts shattered bones, near-death experiences, the loss of friends and mentors, difficult personal chapters, and periods when simply moving forward became its own victory.

John’s experiences also pushed him toward solving problems. His story includes work on bicycle designs intended to better accommodate shorter riders and women, challenging the idea that an existing men’s frame merely needed to be made smaller.

His path later stretched from the cycling world to the Alaskan wilderness and into the orbit of ambitious aerospace ideas.

Through The Bike Shop and Troubles Behind, John tells his story without pretending that survival was easy or success was clean. It is the account of someone who fell hard, more than once, and continued searching for another way forward.
